How to become a Clinical Psychologist in the UK। Dr Manju Antil। Wellnessnetic Care

Clinical Psychologists assess, diagnose, and provide treatment for a wide range of mental health disorders. Their work differs from other fields of psychology as they specifically focus on psychopathology like depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc.

Educational qualification:
Complete UG in Psychology (or related sub-field) accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) (Compulsory)

• Pursue a Master's degree (MA/MSc) in Clinical psychology or related sub-field of Psychology (Compulsory)

• Gain paid work experience in your domain (Compulsory)

• Pursue a doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClin Psy) accredited by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and BPS (Compulsory)

Please note: Postgraduate degrees (Master's and doctorate) are quite competitive in nature. You'll need a first or upper-second-class degree and evidence of excellent research skills and proper work experience in order to become a successful applicant. To practice as a clinical psychologist in the UK, you MUST be registered with the HCPC and BPS.

Overseas psychologists from any country in the world can register with the HCPC in the UK and use the protected practitioner psychologist title i.e. clinical psychologist, thus qualifying them to practice in the UK.

The HCPC checks equivalence based on the British qualification which is at the Doctorate level. The type of HCPC application you make depends on your country of origin and training.
