Navigating Indian Parenting: Balancing Tradition and Modernity

The Indian parenting style is a unique amalgamation of tradition, cultural values, and modern influences. It is a complex system shaped by a myriad of factors including societal norms, religious beliefs, and historical contexts. At the heart of this parenting style lies the deep-seated value system that emphasizes respect for elders, adherence to family and societal expectations, and a strong focus on education and moral upbringing.

One of the most talked-about aspects of Indian parenting is the concept of 'Log kya kahenge?' or 'What will people say?'. This reflects the significant weight given to societal opinion and the desire to maintain social reputation. Parents often make decisions based on societal approval, which can sometimes lead to suppressing a child's individual interests and talents.

Another characteristic is the high regard for elders, which is deeply ingrained in Indian culture. Elders are seen as the repository of wisdom and their words are often considered final. This can sometimes lead to a lack of open communication between generations, as questioning or disagreeing with elders may be viewed as disrespectful.

The joint family system, which is prevalent in many parts of India, also plays a crucial role in child-rearing. It provides a support system but can also lead to multiple authority figures for a child, each with their own set of expectations and beliefs.

Indian parents are known to stress the importance of academic success and moral education. There is a strong emphasis on discipline and hard work as the pathways to success. The parenting styles can range from authoritarian, where obedience and conformity are expected, to authoritative, which combines high expectations with warmth and support.

The impact of these parenting styles on children's self-esteem and independence is profound. While the authoritative style is associated with higher self-esteem in adolescents, overly controlling or authoritarian approaches can have the opposite effect.

In recent times, there has been a shift towards a more child-centric approach, where the emotional and psychological needs of the child are given more consideration. This is reflective of the global trend towards understanding the importance of nurturing not just the academic but also the emotional intelligence of children.

Understanding the psyche behind Indian parenting requires a nuanced view that takes into account the cultural context and the evolving nature of parent-child relationships. It's a dynamic interplay of traditional values and contemporary challenges, where parents strive to provide the best for their children while navigating the complexities of modern society.

For a deeper dive into the cultural factors influencing parenting in India, especially during adolescence, one can refer to a systematic review that offers theoretical analysis specific to this context.

In conclusion, the Indian parenting style is a tapestry woven with threads of cultural heritage, societal expectations, and a growing awareness of the need for a more balanced approach to raising children. As India continues to evolve, so too does its approach to parenting, reflecting the resilience and adaptability of its people.

“The Dance of Karma and Vāsanās: My Journey Within”

In the quietude of my contemplative moments, I find solace in the ancient wisdom of Indian philosophy. The concepts of Karma and Vāsanās—like delicate threads—bind the fabric of existence, revealing patterns that transcend mere happenstance.

Karma, resonating with the Sanskrit essence of “action” or “deed,” is more than a cosmic ledger of retribution. It is the heartbeat of existence—the ripple effect where intention and action intertwine. Each choice, every step, echoes across time, shaping not only this life but also the next. The universe, like a master weaver, stitches our deeds into the tapestry of destiny.

And then there are Vāsanās, those subtle imprints etched upon the canvas of consciousness. They linger, like whispers of forgotten melodies, influencing our present behavior. These karmic echoes are not passive remnants; they mold our perceptions, color our desires, and guide our thoughts. They are the unseen currents that nudge us toward familiar shores.

The interplay between Karma and Vāsanās is intricate—a dance of cause and effect. Karma sows seeds, and Vāsanās provide fertile soil. Our past actions—the seeds—have scripted the lines of our present reality. Our choices now—the tilling of soil—shape the contours of our future. This cycle, like a cosmic carousel, propels us through lifetimes, as if our souls are travelers collecting experiences along the way.

But this isn’t mere philosophy; it’s a moral compass. Our circumstances aren’t random—they emerge from the loom of our deeds, thoughts, and desires. Responsibility blooms from this understanding. Ethical living becomes our compass, for the effects of our actions circle back, like homing birds, to nest in our lives.

Yet, there lies liberation within this cosmic choreography. By peering into our Vāsanās—the hidden grooves—we can rewrite our destiny. Meditation becomes our chisel, mindfulness our brush. We chip away at old impressions, layer by layer, until the soul emerges unburdened. This quest for freedom—Moksha—is our pilgrimage, transcending the wheel of birth and death.

In the ebb and flow of existence, I find myself—a note in the grand symphony. Karma and Vāsanās guide my steps, urging me to dance with purpose. I am not an isolated wanderer; I am stardust, woven into the cosmic fabric. And so, I embrace these truths, seeking harmony within the universal laws that bind us all.

Linguistic Alchemy: Unveiling the Soul through Indian Psychology

Language and consciousness in Indian psychology are fascinating! Let's understand it vividly.

Abusive Language in Indian Context:

In recent years, social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have witnessed the indiscriminate spread of offensive language. Hate speech and offensive posts have become increasingly common. People often target others with hate-filled messages, causing psychological distress and mental trauma. Instead of fostering unity, such language contributes to digital divides and social alienation. Efforts are underway to automatically detect various forms of abusive language in social networks, micro-blogs, and blogs. Researchers create datasets for identifying offensive languages, formulating them as a supervised classification problem.

Teenagers and Language:

Teenagers in India, like elsewhere, have their unique language patterns influenced by cultural shifts, technology, and peer interactions. Code-mixing (using multiple languages within a single conversation) is common among Indian teenagers. They blend regional languages, English, and slang to create a dynamic linguistic landscape. Social media plays a significant role in shaping their language. Emoticons, abbreviations, and memes are part of their digital communication. While some teenagers use language creatively and constructively, others may engage in abusive or offensive language online. Peer pressure, anonymity, and the desire to fit in contribute to this behavior.

Affirmative Language and Empowerment:

Affirmative language uplifts and empowers individuals. It promotes positive self-identity and fosters a sense of belonging. Encouraging words, expressions of support, and motivational language play a crucial role in self-transformation. In Indian psychology, affirmations align with values, compassion, and discipline, guiding individuals toward self-exploration and growth.

Balancing Tradition and Modernity:

Indian psychology acknowledges the tension between tradition and modernity. While respecting cultural heritage, it also embraces global influences. Teenagers navigate this balance through language. They express their identity, aspirations, and emotions using a blend of traditional and contemporary vocabulary.

Remember, language isn’t static—it evolves with society, reflecting our collective consciousness. As we explore its impact, let’s encourage positive communication and mindfulness in our linguistic choices.

What Is Situationship in a Relationship? what exactly is situationship in a relationship?| Understanding the Complex Dynamics of Modern Romance

Discover what situationship in a relationship means and how it affects modern romance. This article explores the intricate dynamics of casual relationships, providing insights and answers to common questions.

Introduction: Unveiling the Mysteries of Modern Romance

In today's fast-paced world, the landscape of relationships has evolved tremendously. Long gone are the days when courtship was a straightforward journey from dating to marriage. Instead, a new term has emerged to describe a complex phenomenon that many individuals find themselves entangled in situationship. But what exactly is situationship in a relationship? How does it differ from casual dating or committed partnerships? In this article, we will delve deep into the intricacies of situationships, shedding light on their unique characteristics and exploring the impact they have on modern romance.

What Is Situationship in a Relationship?

When it comes to understanding the concept of situationship, it's essential to grasp the nuances that differentiate it from other relationship dynamics. In simple terms, a situationship refers to a romantic connection that lacks a clear definition or commitment. It exists in a grey area between casual dating and a committed partnership, leaving both individuals uncertain about their roles, expectations, and future together. Situationships often involve emotional intimacy, physical attraction, and a desire for companionship, yet they lack the explicit boundaries and labels found in traditional relationships.

Navigating the Ambiguous Terrain

Situationships can be likened to sailing uncharted waters. Without a clear destination or compass, individuals in such relationships often find themselves grappling with uncertainty, mixed signals, and a lack of commitment. The absence of defined roles and expectations can create a sense of ambiguity and emotional turmoil, leading to confusion and frustration for those involved.

Recognizing the Signs of a Situationship

Identifying whether you're in a situationship can be challenging, especially when the lines between casual dating and committed relationships are blurred. However, certain indicators can help shed light on the nature of your connection:

1. Lack of Clear Labels:

In a situationship, there is often a reluctance to define the relationship or use specific labels such as "boyfriend" or "girlfriend."

2. Uncertain Future:

Both parties may hesitate to discuss long-term plans or commitments, leaving the future of the relationship shrouded in uncertainty.

3. Limited Emotional Availability:

Emotional intimacy in a situationship is typically limited, as individuals may guard their feelings or maintain a level of emotional detachment.

4. Ambiguous Boundaries:

Situationships often lack clear boundaries, leading to confusion regarding exclusivity, dating others, or involvement in each other's lives.

5. Minimal Communication:

Communication may be sporadic or focused primarily on arranging meet-ups, with little discussion about deeper emotional or personal matters.

6. Absence of Accountability

Situationships often lack the level of accountability seen in committed partnerships, making it easier for one or both parties to avoid taking responsibility for their actions.

By recognizing these signs, you can gain a better understanding of the dynamics at play in your relationship.

FAQs about Situationships: Unveiling the Mysteries

1. What distinguishes a situationship from a committed relationship?

A situationship lacks the explicit commitment and defined roles found in a committed relationship. While there may be an emotional and physical connection, the absence of clear labels and future plans sets it apart.

2. Are situationships sustainable in the long term?

Situationships can endure for extended periods, but their sustainability depends on the needs and desires of the individuals involved. Some may find fulfilment in the ambiguity, while others may seek more stability and commitment

3. Can situationships evolve into committed relationships?

Although it's possible for a situationship to evolve into a committed relationship, it requires open and honest communication between both parties. Without mutual agreement and a shared desire for commitment, the relationship may remain in the ambiguous realm.

4. Do situationships hurt mental health?

Situationships can have varying effects on mental health, depending on the individuals involved. The lack of clarity, uncertainty, and emotional ambiguity can lead to stress, anxiety, and feelings of inadequacy if unaddressed.

5. How can one navigate the challenges of a situationship?

Communication, self-reflection, and setting personal boundaries are key to navigating the challenges of a situationship. Establishing open dialogue and expressing your needs and expectations can help alleviate some of the uncertainty.

6. Is it advisable to enter a situationship knowingly?

Entering a situationship knowingly requires self-awareness and a willingness to accept the potential risks and emotional consequences. It's essential to evaluate whether a situationship aligns with your own values and relationship goals.

Conclusion: Navigating the Complexities of Modern Romance

In a world where traditional relationship structures are increasingly being redefined, situationships have become a prevalent part of modern romance. Understanding the intricacies and dynamics of situationships can empower individuals to navigate these complex connections with greater clarity and self-awareness. While situationships may provide temporary companionship and intimacy, it's crucial to recognize and address the potential emotional challenges they pose. Ultimately, open communication, setting personal boundaries, and self-reflection are vital tools in navigating the ambiguous terrain of situationships.

What is perception in infants? What is infant perceptual development?Psychology Notes| Ugc Net Psychology notes 2023| Dr Manju Antil| Wellnessnetic Care|

Neonates have exceptional perceptual abilities that shed light on the nature of perception and human development in general. Decades of research have tracked the visual and perceptual development of infants (e.g., Johnson, 2011; Maurer & Werker, 2014). People see colour, with a particular emphasis on the first six months following birth. Comprehending how newborns transition from the fundamental sensory experience of a stimulus to a perceptual representation that is beneficial for understanding and interacting with their environment is made possible in large part by the study of colour. Since they have been the subject of significant multidisciplinary research, the neurobiology, sensory mechanisms, and perceptual processes involved in adult colour vision and perception are well characterized (e.g., Conway et al., 2010). Colour is a fundamental component of visual perception; it serves as a cue for a variety of cognitive processes, including communication, perception of objects, situations, and people, and aesthetics (e.g., Elliot et al., 2015). Additionally, as an experimental stimulus, colour may be carefully measured and manipulated.

Infants' perceptions of the world are evaluated through their senses and behaviours (Houde, 2006), and as they mature, this evaluation takes on greater significance. This development is influenced by the physical maturity of the infant's sensory organs and the neurological system as well as by the experiences they have in their environment. Infants experience a variety of images, sounds, textures, odours, and tastes, and as a result, they learn a lot about people and objects. As these experiences accumulate in their memories, the perceptions of the infants gradually develop (Morris, 2002a). In their study on the movement perception of three-month-old infants, Sommerville et al. (2005) discovered that when infants face an object, they immediately form action goal-oriented representations. They also found that there is a significant positive correlation between infants' goal-oriented actions and their observations of other people's goal-oriented action experiences.

In their study, Bhatt and Waters (1998) found that young children can recognise three-dimensional forms. Infants are known to respond differently to novel stimuli, but when the push becomes persistent, they acquire accustomed to it and become sensitive to even small changes. This demonstrates how early identification and preference of many senses occur. The ability of an infant's sense organs to work from birth promotes learning in later stages. The senses play a crucial role in learning (Stalk, 1993). Infants may shift their multifunctional coding of object representations to a scenario when necessary, according to Schweinle and Wilcox's (2004) research.

The perception, which plays a significant role in human existence, begins during pregnancy and is actively continued during infancy and youth. Children attempt to comprehend their surroundings beginning at birth by employing their senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch (Dönmez et al. 2000). The senses begin to work at birth, even if they are not fully formed. Consequently, it is considered that they progressively begin working before birth (Gander and Gardiner, 2010). One of the most crucial factors in preparing a child for life is the perception process, which begins with birth. The most important time in this process is infancy.

FACTORS AFFECTING PERCEPTION:

Perception is the process of giving meaning to the senses after organising them in different ways. Just as different people might perceive stimuli in various ways, one individual can also interpret the same stimulus differently from a different perspective (MEB, 2004). Investigations into the internal and environmental elements that influence different perception types may be divided into these two groups.

Internal Factors: Either physiologic or psychological variables inside the body affect perception. Emotions, needs, mental attitudes, preparedness, and inculcations are some of these elements. Perceptions are influenced by emotions, therefore when someone is liked; other people tend to exaggerate their favourable traits. Hunger makes food seem more appetizing to someone, therefore needs have an impact on perception. Things that are in accordance with the accepted notions are easily perceived, whereas things that are not adopted are overlooked. Mental attitudes have an impact on perceptions. When someone's photo is revealed and they are informed that they are a criminal, they will be seen as such since they are ready to do so. Psychological illusions are caused by emotional states like fear, rage, and worry, which can alter perception. Perception is impacted by hypnosis and indoctrination. Ambiguous forms can be assessed and understood in light of inculcations (MEB, 2004).

External Factors: Perceptions are influenced by extrinsic physiological or social variables. Perception depends on both the environment in which the item or event is present and the environment in which the perceiver is present. A black background makes the same shade of grey appear lighter while a white background makes it appear darker. In colder air than in warmer air, a glass of cold water is viewed differently (MEB, 2004). The abundance of stimuli and perception development are closely related. The growth of perception and development may be positively impacted by interaction, communication, experimentation, and the power of discriminating (Aral, 2011). According to many perspectives, external factors are made up of the characteristics of things and existences as well as the nature of their effects on us.

Hence, we can conclude it, the research on newborn colour perception as a whole suggests that during the first six months after birth, visual and perceptual development happens incredibly quickly. As infants, babies can hardly sense colour, but by the age of six months, they begin to perceptually organize, categorise, and maintain colour perception, and their sensitivity to colour corresponds to statistical regularities of natural settings.

What To Do If You Are In a Relationship With An Introvert| Psychologist talk| Dr Manju Antil| Wellnessnetic Care

Here we are welcoming you to our new article, in which, we are going to dig through, relationship tips for extroverted personalities. If you're in a relationship with an introvert, you may be bumbling to figure out your partner and their preferences. specifically, if you're an extrovert and in the early stages of dating, here we are suggesting, that What To Do If You Are In a Relationship With An Introvert

1. Give them the space they need to recharge by themselves,

Instead of dragging them outside, understand that introverts recharge by being alone -- don't take it personally if they need time by themself.

2. Accept introverts for who they are instead of trying to convert them into extroverts.

So many people think of introverts as incapable of socializing and try and 'fix' them. As their partner, accept them for who they are and be a safe space for them instead.

3. Have meaningful conversations
Introverts hate small talk and the usual redundant "How was your day?" greetings. Talking about deeper topics can get them to open up better than shallow conversations.

4. Ask them out for the types of meetings they like
Many introverts don't enjoy parties and loud but enjoy intimate settings such as dinners and casual chats. They'd appreciate these instead.

5. Stay close to them at events with new people

A place full of strangers can be intensely confronting and stressful for an introvert. Acting as the 'safety zone' for your partner can be very relieving, especially when having to do introductions.

6. Be willing to accept silence

Introverts hate having to talk all the time during conversations. Accepting that there will be times when the conversation will be silent but still enjoying each other's presence is much more helpful than forcing out talk.

7. Establish a space for them in the house where they can be alone

Apart from scheduling alone time, also try agreeing on a specific which acts as their 'safe spot' where they can recharge. after a long day by themselves.

In a world built for extroverts, being an introvert's safe space as well as being kind and welcoming towards their needs creates a much better relationship dynamic as compared to pressuring them or trying to 'fix' their introversion.

There are plenty of introvert-extrovert and introvert-introvert relationships out there that are happy and healthy. Introversion should not be a barrier to that!

Ladies, if you've ever been ghosted by a man, read this! Why man do ghosting in relationship| Psychologist talk| Dr Manju Antil| Wellnessnetic Care

Ghosted by a guy sucks, right? No call, no text, not even an email to say, 'Thanks but no thanks.' It can knock your self-confidence and make you wonder what you did wrong. But I'm here to tell you that being ghosted by a guy can be a lifesaver. When a guy suddenly disappears on you, he's actually doing you a favour. Let me explain...

First of all, here's a harsh but honest truth: he's clearly not into you. It was never going to work out. (And that's his loss, not yours.) If a guy can just drop you without a second thought, then he's clearly not the high-quality man you deserve. And in fact, by vanishing without a trace, he's saving you a lot of heartache and headache in the long run.

You're worth a man who will cherish you and treat you like a precious jewel, not a little boy who doesn't have the emotional capacity to talk about his feelings and be honest with you.

You don't have time for these types of guys. Imagine if you'd wasted more of your precious time and energy on an unworthy man! Now that would be a real tragedy. Eventually, he would have shown his true colours, you'd realise he's not the man for you, and you'd have to do the work of removing him from your life.

Instead, he's taken himself out of the equation, leaving you free to redirect your attention toward looking after yourself and your goals. Use this time to fill your cup. Be so busy and obsessed with your own life that you don't have time to worry about why he scurried off.

When you're focused on your own projects and taking care of yourself, you shine with confidence and power. You know you're a treasure, and you sparkle like a rare diamond. And when you radiate self- confidence, you magnetise everything you want toward you - money, success, and yes, men.

High-value men recognise a woman who knows her worth, and they'll be drawn to you like moths to your sexy, luxurious flame. And then you get to pick and choose a man who will make you feel like a million bucks. Now, doesn't that sound better than obsessively checking your phone every five minutes to see if a guy has bothered to get in touch?

Ladies, if a guy ghosts you, don't waste a single thought on him. Be grateful he's gone, say, 'Thank you, next,' and remember that you deserve to be cherished and valued for the high-value Queen you are.

Don't give a man a second date if he doesn't do these things| How to find out he deserves you or not| Dr Manju Antil| Wellnessnetic Care

Hey, hello High-quality women, here we are again meeting in our latest articles, in our today article being a marital therapist, I am going to discuss dating rules, for girls, how to find out if he deserving person for you or not, and whether is he a high-quality man or not

Don't give a man a second date if he doesn't do these things...

1. He's made no effort to look nice to you. Not saying he needs to wear a suit and tie at all times, but he needs to look like he cares what you think of him and wants to impress you. Even if it's just a nice pair of jeans and a smart jacket, he needs to try. If he doesn't care what you think of him, then he doesn't care about you, period.

2. He doesn't hold the door open for you. There are just basic manners. By holding a door open for you, a man is showing that he's chivalrous and wants to cherish and take care of you.

A guy who doesn't do this wasn't brought up right... he isn't a gentleman and doesn't know how to treat a high-value woman you.

3. He only talks about himself. Of course, you want to learn more about him and get to know him... but if he monologues about himself nonstop without giving you a chance to speak, and he doesn't ask you anything about yourself, then he thinks he's the most important, interesting person in the room. This guy isn't going to be capable of giving you the devotion and attention you deserve.

4. He's rude to the waitstaff. How a man treats people who are serving him is a great indicator of what he's like. A high-caliber man treats everyone with respect, regardless of their social status or position. But if he's rude, demanding, or condescending to the waitstaff, then it's a pretty clear sign that he's not that nice a guy, and not worthy of your time.

5. He doesn't pick up the bill. I feel strongly about this one, and for good reason: if a man asks you to split the bill or pay your way, how the heck is he going to be when it comes to providing for you? He is not a high-standard man at al and will ditch you soon once you stop putting your bit financially, Just forget about the equality concept, and focused towards is he capable enough or not. a gentleman, will treat you like his women from the first date.

Let's pay your man, for you, because my dear when you let him pay for you, it's the time when you respect him more, and could place your 100 percent surrender to him because you would start sensing protection in his company, If you want to be taken care of like you deserve whilst you're looking after the house and raising a family, you need a high-quality man who knows how to provide for his woman. Ladies if you smell like he is not caring and protective, dont give him 2nd date.

It's important though, if you plan your family with him in future, you must be aware about is he capable enough to handle a family with you or not.  A well-deserving man always takes care of her woman like a queen. He notice every small details about you. So let him love you, let him protect you, let him pay for you.

6. And finally... He expects sex on the first date. This is a big one. A hug? A kiss on the hand whilst he gazes into your eyes? (Cute.) A peck on the cheek? These are all acceptable and show that he's willing to be patient...

he knows a high-value woman doesn't give it away on the first date, because she knows she's worth waiting for. But if he tries to get you to go back to his place, or gets handsy or does anything that you're uncomfortable with, then that's a HELL NO. If he feels entitled to put his hands on your juicy self after just one date, then he either feels entitled or thinks you're cheap. Hold your head high and walk away.

Save this to refer back to the next time you're out on a first date... so you know if he's worth a second date!

Are You a Perfectionist? PERFECTIONISM SCALE| Test how much perfectionist you are| WHAT IS PERFECTIONISM? Dr Manju Antil| Wellnessnetic Care| Psychologist Manju Antil

High standards are the hallmark of perfectionism and one tends to be overly critical of one's actions, expressed with concern about mistakes and insecurities about actions and beliefs.
Perfectionist beliefs are an important underlying cause of various psychopathologies, so this scale helps clarify underlying causes of concern for clients. and is particularly useful for assessing people with body image problems such as anorexia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and anxiety disorders.

Some people take pride in their perfectionist nature, and such beliefs can be important targets for psychological intervention. It helps highlight the lack of perfectionism and provides physicians and patients with a valuable benchmark for "normal" levels of perfectionism.

Perfectionism is an essential psychological construct. However it is measured, increased levels of perfectionism are found in anorexia nervosa (),  social phobia, panic disorder (), bulimia nervosa (), anxiety (), depression (), and obsessive-compulsive disorder ().

Prospective research has found that higher levels of perfectionism predict eating disorders () and depression (; ), suggesting that the construct may play a role in the etiology of these disorders. Interestingly, perfectionism also appears to be related to positive outcomes and characteristics, such as achievement motivation () and self-efficacy ().

ASPECTS OF PERFECTIONISM:

Based on their research and the work of their predecessors, Hewitt and Frett proposed the following structure of perfectionist elements.

  • self-centred perfectionism
  • social perfectionism
  • socially prescribed perfectionism
The total score for all components reflects your overall level of perfectionism. However, the percentage of the perfectionist element may vary. Therefore, different people may have different profiles of perfectionism components, even at the same general level.
If you pass the perfectionism test, your structure will tell you where your standards are too high. Later, you may find it easier to accept the imperfections of this world.

INSTRUCTION

You will be offered 45 simple statements concerning your personal characteristics and traits. There is no wrong or right answers, just decide honestly whether you agree or disagree with each item.

Note that this test is provided for educational purposes only, and its questions and results can in no way be interpreted as a specialist or doctor’s advice.
