During a depressive episode, the person experiences significant difficulty in personal, family, social, educational, occupational, and/or other important areas of functioning. Here in this article, we are going to discuss Things Only People High-Functioning Depression Can Understand. It may be a combination of genetic, biological, or life experiences that lead to functional depression. Stress, illness, unresolved grief, substance abuse issues, trauma, relationship issues, and major life transitions are just a few reasons someone might grow depressed.
Here we are going to discuss some symptoms, by which you can easily identify what high-function depression is.
1. Questioning if you really have depression when you see stories and media of people with 'stereotypical' depression (crying, sobbing, breaking down, etc)
2. Gaslighting yourself into believing that you are actually okay and you just need a little time to get better...
3. when you've been doing that for the longest time and it hasn't worked a single time
4. Being two completely different people at work/school and at home where you sometimes not even doing your daily chores.
5. Being tired of the mask of seeming alright but not being able to take off that mask after years of wearing it
6. A distinct urge to open up about your depression but keeping silent because you don't want to ruin the mood/others' impression of you
7. The few times you open up about how you really feel, people say "Oh but you don't look depressed!" causing you to feel invalidated and shut down
8. Understanding that after years of telling yourself "It's not that bad", it really is that bad and it's okay to feel like crap without feeling guilty or shameful about it
The unfortunate thing abouthiabout high-functioningsion is that it often goes unnoticed and untreated because sufferers suppress rue emotions, and pretend they're okay instead of feeling them.
The human body and mind aren't built to suppress emotions. Give yourself the permission to cry and break if you neto to take off the mask of being alright sometimes -- it's okay to seek help.
